CSU Paramedic course
Universities: Posted 24-4-07 Deadline - No Deadline
The first university to introduce tertiary training for ambulance clinicians in 1994, Charles Sturt University (CSU) has now become the first to enter into a national accreditation process through the Council of Ambulance Authorities (CAA). Because most States and Territories are moving toward university based education for paramedics, the CAA, the peak body representing the ambulance authorities in Australasia, recently began an accreditation process, to standardise the qualifications throughout Australia, as there are now eleven providers of paramedic education in Australia, according to Peter O'Meara, Associate Professor in CSUs School of Biomedical Sciences. Accreditation brings ambulance clinicians into line with similar professions such as nurses, and will allow our graduates to move around the country freely. In terms of credibility and portability it is really important, Professor O'Meara said.

Accounting at UTS
Scholarships: Posted 24-4-07 Deadline - No Deadline
UTS provided the following news about the Bachelor of Accounting co-op scholarship & course news: Applications will close Wednesday 13 June, for students hoping to start the course in January 2008. This is a much earlier closing date than other university courses, but was very successful last year as it allowed us to match the Chartered Accounting firmsí timetable. Like them, we will be making up to 25 guaranteed offers in July, allowing applicants to weigh up any BAcc offer at the same time as the CA firms make cadetship offers. A second round of applications will also be taken, closing much later in the year, but only limited places will be available. So please encourage interested students to apply in June. The BAcc application form is now available online at our website:www.bachelorofaccounting.com and students will see that it is a straightforward and quick process to apply. Like last year, applicants enter their personal and contact details online (which takes only 2 minutes) using Part A of our application form. They then complete a single-page Part B form, covering their achievements within and outside of school. We ask schools to sign off on this Part B form and fax it direct to us.This year we've improved our fax service to avoid the frustration some schools experienced last year with a constant busy signal as the closing date deadline approached. Our selection criteria remain unchanged, and are spelt out clearly for applicants at: http://www.business.uts.edu.au/bofacc/application/selection.html We are looking for all-round achievers - applicants who have taken initiative and pursued interests within and outside school, and in doing so demonstrated things like interpersonal skills, dedication and leadership. A high UAI is not essential. Academic ability is just one of our 5 selection criteria, so some successful candidates will be stronger in other areas than on UAI. Each year we take in applicants whose eventual UAIs fall in the range 85-100, so please encourage worthy students who don't expect to reach 95 UAI to apply. Our website now includes more pages on Accounting careers and how Accounting roles have changed from the stereotypical. There is also a new page describing in detail the skills that employers are looking for in applicants: http://www.business.uts.edu.au/bofacc/findmore/skillsneed.html Plus there are heaps of other online resources for applicants, such as student profiles, graduate profiles, FAQs, student news and events. And finally, you are invited to attend an Information Evening for potential BAcc applicants, to be held Monday 4 June, from 5.30 to 6.30 pm, at UTS Haymarket. This event will give students from your school (as well as interested teachers and parents) the chance to find out more about the BAcc course, talk to current students, graduates and sponsoring employers, and have their questions answered. With applications closing 13 June, please ask any interested students at your school to register online for this event via our website. If you would like any more information about the Bachelor of Accounting co-op course at UTS, please reply to this message or call 02 9514 3579.
