They wish to advise McCarthy Catholic College students that the next application deadline of our Language & International Affairs Scholarships is Friday 30th May 2008. The next deadline for our Creative Arts Scholarships is Friday 28th March 2008.Scholarships are open to students between 15-18 years of age and offer the unique opportunity to live and study overseas for a semester or year. Students' language skills improve, their independence and maturity is enhanced and they gain an important edge when it comes to future career and study opportunities. There are thirty five (35) scholarships available valued at over $112,000: 24 x Language Scholarships offered in conjunction with the Australian Federation of Modern Language Teachers Associations (AFMLTA). News from Business Cadetships: The Business Cadetships website has again been updated with the 2008 Program Companies officially announced. They are: UBS, BNP Paribas, QBE, Zurich and Westpac. Westpac is new to the Program this year and in addition to offering cadetships in Sydney, the bank may also make places available at four regional offices: Armidale, Newcastle, Orange and Wollongong. Applications for the 2008 Program open on 28 March and close on 16 May. Applications are made online by Year 12 applicants. Year 12 students, their parents and Careers Advisers are cordially invited to the 2008 Program Launch: 7.00pm on Friday 28 March at the Sydney Harbour Marriott, 30 Pitt Street, Sydney. No prior registration is required for the Launch and admission is free. What's New! GAP Application Fee: Now refundable -All applicants must pay an application fee of $100 which goes towards the cost of processing applications and holding interviews. However for the first time applicants unsuccessful at interview (eg who we deem unsuitable for our program) will have this fee refunded. In all other cases this fee is non-refundable. We are hoping that this will inspire more kids to give it a go as they have nothing to lose. GAP year contributes to your independent living away from home allowance. The Taxation Office has issued Gap Activity Projects a Class Ruling; CR 2003/19 Income Tax and Fringe Benefits Tax: GAP Activities Program. This means that we can provide each volunteer who has successfully completed their project a Statement of Earnings that includes an allowance for board and lodging. For example someone who volunteers in Canada for 6 months may receive a Statement of Earnings that they can forward on to centrelink that notes they earned $8500.

RSA and RCG courses in Term 2 (wk 4)

RSA will be on Tuesday 20th May 3.15 -9.00 and RCG will be on Wednesday 21st May - same times. Cost of each course is $70 payable to Mrs Forrest. THe course is capped at 25 places so pay up when you can. It is advisable to do both courses as it improves your employment chances. You can be 17 yrs old and do the courses but cannot use them until you are 18.

After this talk, I won't be discussing these schemes until Term 3 so don't miss out if you are applying to go to uni, want a backup plan if you get a low UAI or intending deferring next year.
